The Port Macquarie Magpies have well and truly turned their season around with a thumping win against the Coffs Swans.
Both the rugby union teams, the Hastings Valley Vikings and the Port Macquarie Pirates also won their clashes.
The Vikings played the Kempsey Cannonballs and the Pirates took on Coffs Rugby.
But the most impressive performance goes to the Magpies who won their game 149-36.
It’s a huge turn around for the club that started the season so poorly with zero wins from three games.
The first time the Magpies played the Swans it was the Pies who were put to the sword by a similar scorline.
In their second clash the Pies performed much better but were still defeated by a rampaging Swans outfit.
They turned it all around on Saturday with the help of Adam Eckerman who kicked 10 goals.
Club president Craig Carroll said he was as surprised as anyone at the scoreline.
“We came into this game confident we could win,” he said. “But no one thought we would win by that much. Coffs had only lost one game all year.”
At quarter time the Pies were actually down a goal but dominated for the remainder of the game only letting in one more goal for the three quarters.
“After the first three games our season had been derailed but we’re definitely back on track now and I think we made a bit of a statement on Saturday.
The Vikings got home 27-19 against Kempsey.
It was anyone’s game in the final 10 minutes until James Terret found himself on the end of good ball movement and scored a length of the field try.
The day doubled as the club’s sponsors day and club president David Barnes said a good show was put on for supporters.
“It was a good, hard fought win and good to do it in front of our sponsors to show them what we’re capable of,” he said.
Hamish McCormack took out the players player award for his hard running and being solid in defence in the back row.
The Pirates won their match 33-15 against Coffs. But they didn’t have it all their own way and went into the half time break 10 all.
Coach, Nigel Hurlston said he was so frustrated he couldn’t talk to his players during the break.
“We just put all the pressure on ourselves in the first half by not following the game plan,” he said.
Stern words from the teams assistant coach saw the side back on track to dominate in the second half and take the win.
