Thanks to Barbie for so capably taking up the baton in this difficult role while I was on sabbatical.
Saturday afternoon under beautiful clear blue winter skies the first of what we hope will be regular events recognising our great sponsors, the Wauchope Men's Bowling Club held the Lewis' Butchery club select pairs competition.
The joy and banter on the greens was great to hear and see as bowlers of all abilities mixed to make it a tremendous afternoon.
Taking home the cash on the day were Tony Arndell and John Morgan, with Bill Reid and Phil Saville filling second spot. Bill has been complaining of a sore back but it didn't seem to affect his game once they hit the front.
Peter 'Golly' Ostler may have to change his nickname to 'Sorry Pete' after the number of times he was heard to utter the comment to his playing partner during the afternoon.
Wednesday at the Wauchope Men's Bowling Club saw only 18 players participate in our single entry select triples. Winners of the afternoon were 'the Beechwood Butcher', Kevan Ostler, Keith Clayworth and Gordon Wagner with +16. Runners-up were Pat Hutchby, Bob Willings and old reliable, Ron Sharman with +14.
The weather has been great for bowls so get your name down and help get those numbers up for an enjoyable afternoon. If you are keen to play in this event please ensure your name is registered prior to 11.30am on the day to avoid any delay in structuring the draw and thus the commencement of the games.
Friday saw a super turnout of 14 teams contest the nominated pairs event. The winners on the day were (hopefully it will now stop the whingeing) Ken Coull and 'Barbie' Ken Ansley, with a pretty handy +19. Runners-up were Peter McLeod and Brian Thomas with +15 over the McDonald clan.
Sunday the WMBC Travelling Bowlers 'ferals' held their monthly single entry triples competition with 26 bowlers taking to the greens. They welcomed a new bowler in Todd Murphy who was introduced to the club by 'whispering' Brett Cant. After his initiation into the feral way by Brett we hope he still returns.
The winners of the morning were Joe Molenkamp and Phil Beattie. Phil was ecstatic as he believes it's his first win in five years. Runners-up were Hackers, grandson Hackers and no relation, Lance Wills.
Next month, 3 August, the Travelling Bowlers will be holding a cultural road trip to Kempsey RSL. If you are interested in expanding your horizons see the notice board and register, as numbers will be limited.
This week on the bowls agenda we have the usual Friday afternoon's nominated pairs at 1pm, single entries will also be accepted.
Wednesday afternoon single entry club select triples are at 1pm.
Visitors are most welcome to register for any of these events by entering on the available sheet on the notice bench or phoning the club. Come along and enjoy some convivial company, share a laugh and maybe a sherbet or two.
Nominations for the Club Triples Championship close this weekend so if you haven't already registered a team now is the time.
The final of the Major Singles has been postponed to a date to be fixed as Jack Lewis is contesting the District Singles and John Borg I believe is about to depart for the Commonwealth Games representing Malta. We wish them both well.
