Council granted approval for the development application at Wednesday's ordinary council meeting.
The project will see the existing Marine Rescue building, kiosk and toilets at the eastern end of Town Beach partly demolished and then altered and expanded.
The existing structure is almost 50 years old and is in a state of gradual deterioration as a result of concrete cancer and exposure to corrosive salt and extreme weather.
Marine Rescue will get upgraded facilities to help cope with their increasing workload while beach-goers will have access to a new kiosk, complete with outdoor seating, as well as new amenities. There will also be a store room for lifeguard equipment and a shared meeting area for Council life guards and the community.
The budget for the project is $300,000.
