Woolworths showcased a plan to develop its Food for Less site and the adjoining Plaza car park at a Port Macquarie CBD Property Owners Group meeting on Monday night.
The plan is a work in progress.
Woolworths owns the Food for Less site and is in negotiations with Crown Lands to buy the adjoining Plaza car park.
The proposal includes shop fronts along the Kooloonbung Creek foreshore with modern architecture, landscaping and pedestrian links.
Their development would also feature a Woolworths supermarket.
There is provision for public art under the proposal. The design was modified as a result of two stakeholder meetings.
There has also been a pre-lodgement meeting with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Under the Woolworths vision, the site would include specialty stores including the opportunity for cafes and restaurants along the foreshore. Undercover parking is planned.
Woolworths regional development manager Anthony Iannuzzi outlined the Woolworths plan.
Woolworths has existing development approval to revamp the now closed Food for Less supermarket.
Negotiations with Crown Lands, if successful, would be a step towards an expanded development covering the Food for Less site and the adjoining car park.
"This is a better community outcome, we believe," Mr Iannuzzi said.
A fresh development consent would be needed too.
When Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce president Hadyn Oriti asked about activating the foreshore, Mr Iannuzzi said a lot of feedback showed it was highly active already, so Woolworths shouldn't have any problems from a commercial sense.
The shops would have potential for spill-out seating, he said, and the shops would generate custom.
Mr Iannuzzi said the intention was there to be consistent with the foreshore master plan.
