About 80 kids joined in the tournament named in the Hastings former professional surfer Darren O'Rafferty's name.
O'Rafferty himself was on hand to surf along with several other local legends and surfing identities including Ian Bell, Wayne McLeary and Damian King.
Helen Cross-Glover said everyone involved had a great time and there has been talk of the event returning every couple of years.
"It was a fantastic weekend," she said.
"The surf was great and it picked up even more on Sunday.
"The standard of surfing was really high too.
"We could go just about anywhere in Australia and our kids would be just as good as any other around."
Cross-Glover said the surf was ideal on the Saturday for the junior surfers but turned out too good on the Sunday.
"The junior surfers were meant to surf off against their heroes in the celebrity competition but the surf was too big," she said.
"But it was perfect for the older experienced surfers who still took to the waves."
It was bodyboarder King who took out the celebrity event with the competition's namesake in second followed by McLeary.
Nine boards were given out to surfers and everyone who took part received a competitors pack.
