The eighth annual Hastings Cancer Trust Gala Dinner is on again at Port Macquarie Panthers from 6pm.
Effervescent chairwoman of the trust’s fundraising committee, Betty Allman, is grateful to the many businesses in the Hastings that have donated thousands of dollars of vouchers and items for the slow auction and balloon prizes.
“Despite the ever-increasing burden on everyone’s pockets it has been wonderful to see the generosity of our local businesses and service organisations,” the 76-year-old said.

Slow auction items include paintings from well-known artists Reggie D and his wife Deb, Harold Le Jeune and Al Greaves, a DVD player, jewellery, leather handbags, kitchen appliances, home decorator items, a handmade quilt, a skateboard and more.
In addition to the slow auction there are 100 balloons up for grabs at $20 each and more than 80 balloons for $50 each.
“The gifts inside the balloons are valued at much more than the purchase price and include vouchers from restaurants, retail services, cruise boats, hair and beauty salons, pamper hampers, auto shops and spas,” Mrs Allman said.
Tickets to the gala are $85 and include a three-course dinner and a bottle of red and white wine per table.
Apart from the balloons and auction items five-piece Sydney-based jazz band Todd Hardy’s The Moods and special guest vocalist Anita Spring will entertain.
Versatile musicians Todd Hardy, Joern Harris, Shane Cranney, Duncan Archibald and Matt Grubener swing from New Orleans trad to Latin, and rhythm and blues and never fail to fill the dance floor.
Throughout the night you can make your bids for slow auction items, grab a balloon and take a ticket in the raffle for a chance to win one of four great prizes drawn on the night.
First prize is seven nights accommodation at Leanda Lei, Lord Howe Island for two people including airfares.
Runner-up prize is two nights for two including breakfast at Rydges Sydney and third prize is two nights for two at The Observatory Port Macquarie including breakfast at the Milkbar, dinner at Scampis Restaurant and an Endota Spa pampering.
The Stunned Mullet in William Street will provide dinner to the value of $200 to the fourth prize winner.
During the last eight years the trust has donated more than $600,000 to local projects including quality of life enhancing equipment for palliative care patients in the Macleay and Hastings; fund for an exercise physiology program to hasten the recovery of cancer survivors, and a gamma probe for improving the quality of breast cancer surgery.
Hastings Cancer Trust was established to link the generosity of the Hastings and Macleay communities with the needs of cancer patients and their carers.
While ever cancer exists the trust’s work will never be done.
