All in all, 65 professional golfers battled for two days for a share of the prizemoney of almost $18,000. On the Saturday there were 14 sub par rounds recorded and more on Sunday. The best round was shot by Troy Cox a five under par, 66.
Winners with rounds of 67 and 69 were Rudy Bezuidenhout, who has had success here before, and Nevan Basic.
Both praised the presentation of the course particularly the quality of the greens, Rudy stating, "We'd be blessed if we struck such quality greens every tournament."
Locals were pleased to welcome back two of our own lads, Duane Kirwan and David Bransdon.
Sponsors Brad Maggs from BDM Constructions and Troy McKinnon (represented by his sister Carmen) from Wauchope Real Estate were elated with the support and vowed to continue their sponsorship well into the future.
On Sunday, President Al introduced all of our local sponsors, most of whom played on the day and thanked them, particularly Geoff Fowler and Ian Hackney who provide a special cash reward to the pro in the winning groups on Saturday and Sunday.
Winners of the team event, a best 2 of 4 stableford on Saturday with 95 points were Geoff Flemming, Brad Jones, Bert Splithof and pro B Roach ; runners up Alan Hoy, John Leicht and Steve Goodwin and pro C Banham 90 on a c/b over Al Pamplin, Neil and Jo Hudson and David Bransdon.
In 4th were Terry Moore, Jo Horton and Gary Smith with D Papadatos 89c/b.NTPs to Ben Saunders 40cm on the 1st; Ray Smith 1.71 on the 4th and Terry Moore 1.40 and Lyn Hobson on the 18th. Balls to 88.
Brad Jones and Bert Splithof featured again on Sunday, being part of the winning team with Guy Callaghan and pro Grant Thomas who tallied 93 points. Runners up: Kevin Miller, John Baker, Bob Baker and pro Dimi Papadatos on 90. Next were Shane Thompson, Carl Eade and Howard Ashby with Richie Gallichan on 89 and in 4th: Marie and Terry Moore, Gary Smith and pro Troy Cox on 88.
NTPs to Barbara Varcoe, Joan Ryan and Tiffany Baldwin for the ladies and Bob Potts, Chris O'Brien and Lindsay Baker for the boys.Balls to teams with 85c/b.
Darren Baynes, the PGA representative spoke very highly of the organisation and the hospitality, thanking Clark Joyce, Alan Rudd, Gary Foster and the staff of the Country Club for their contribution to a memorable event.
A set of clubs, the prize in a raffle held to supplement expenses, was won by local golfer Shane Olsson.
Last Thursday's winners were Josh Leicht, Dennis Morton and Steve Taylor with vouchers also going to Paul Wisemantel, Jim Thompson, Gerry Byron, Mark Doherty, Steve Hoy and Bernie Stoertzer. NTPs to S Wholohan(4th and 7th), Horshack, Bob Dark, Graham Cumming, Peter Gehrig, Max Livingstone, Stuart Robertson, and Luke Mackay , who missed the hole on the 18th by a mere 1.36m. Balls to 34c/b and 146 players.
Saturday is a Single Stableford sponsored by St George Bank. The Masters Pennant team, who had the bye last week, begin their campaign on Sunday at Kew and a Medley Stableford will be held here to celebrate the end of May.
