The Camden Haven Redbacks went pink for the day, along with the Port City League Magpies, as they held a pink stumps day at Laurieton Oval.
Player fees and proceeds from a barbecue and refreshments went towards the cause.
Camden Haven president Pat Kerr said her club had raised more than $500 from the day, plus another barbecue earlier in the season. It’s the third year the Redbacks have got behind the cause.
The club’s usual fixture is against Epping, but that club didn’t travel up this year.
Fourth grade wanted to host a pink stumps day about a month ago, but that was washed out.
Magpies president Paul Byrne said online donations came into their own for his club. The Pies raised $920 for the foundation.
“That’s from the online fundraising page and yesterday,” he said on Sunday.
Byrne said it was a fantastic cause to get behind.
“For sure – you’re talking about getting breast care nurses into regional hospitals,” he said.
And as for the twenty20 match, which definitely took a back seat, the Magpies declared at 9-102, with one ball remaining in the chase, to make for a tie.
The Redbacks had earlier scored 9-102 from their 20 overs.
Byrne said the match was played in the right spirit.
“It was a nice and relaxed atmosphere,” he said.
