Vice-chairman of the Hastings River Fishermen’s Co-operative Robert Elford said the timing of the recent floods couldn’t have been any better for their biggest day of the year - Easter.
He said produce was on the up, in particular prawns.
“Prawns are always the popular choice but anything that is fresh and local has been a big hit,” he said.
“We expect about a tonne of prawns to come in, in the next few days.”
He said he expected prices to be reasonable too and at least be easier on the hip pocket than over the Christmas period.
“It should be fair cheaper than Christmas,” he said.
“Christmas isn’t really the best time for prawns where this time of year is much better.”
Mr Elford claimed the Eastern King prawn to be of some of the best quality while medium and small prawns will be available as well as schoolies and some tiger prawns.
For those who want the very best from their seafood Mr Elford offered some special advice.
“The first thing you do when you get your seafood home is take it out of the plastic,” he said.
“Cook it within two or three days. That is when it’s at its best.”
