Marathon a day all in the name of promoting healthy lifestyles

IF completing one marathon is a great achievement what category does 365 marathons fit into?

Alan Murray and his wife Janette Murray-Wakelin literally ran into Port Macquarie on Monday.

The pair have run 42.2 kilometres – a marathon distance – every day since January 1 and they will continue for 12 months.

The veteran raw vegan endurance athletes are running around Australia by completing 365 marathons in 365 days.

Mr Murray said RunRAW2013 is an awareness and fundraising event to inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future.

The pair have accomplished a long list of achievements including running the length of New Zealand when they finished 50 marathons in as many days in the year 2000.

Now the couple face an unprecedented challenge of running around Australia.

Their goal is made all that more unbelievable as they are asking for nothing in return other than to promote healthy lifestyles and possibly raise money for several selected charities.

They said their charities reflected their life values of helping people and animals in need.

The charities include KIDS under cover, the Australian Paralympic committee and Animals Australia.

“We both love to run it’s a joy for both of us,” Mr Murray said.

“When we first thought about doing this we thought that it was far too far.

“But then we changed our minds and thought we’d give it a crack.”

And where do the couple get all their energy for their marathon each day?

“We eat nothing but fruit and veges,” Mr Murray said.
