Nine swimmers from the club will contest the two-day 10-U12 years State Age Championships.
Joe Begbie (11) and Bianca Jamison (12), will race nine and five events respectively, are considered “veterans” of the junior team. They are considered two of the club’s strongest competitors who have the potential to place in the top 10 in a number of their events.
They are joined by Jaivan Brown (12), Isaac Post (11) and Lleyton Wall (10), competing at their first State Championships in individual events. Tom Berryman, Brittney Gray, Amy Mutton and Lily Smith join the State Squad to complete the club’s relay teams.
The 13-18 years State Age Championships begin on Tuesday and runs over five days and 17 swimmers will represent the club.
Daniel Deicke (16), Lachlan Kirkland (13) and Mekayla Everingham (15) have qualified for seven events while Jeremy Smith (18) will race in four events at his last State Age Championships. He’ll be out to earn a place in the finals for his favoured 100m backstroke event.
Caitlin Dewbery (14) is looking to make a name for herself at her first State Age Championships and has qualified for the 200m backstroke event. Ashlyn Dures (13), Mitchell Everingham (13), Jacob Foy (13), Sam Harris (13), Kolby Kemmett (17), Kaitlyn Mapstone (16), Jacinta McAvoy (13), Lauren Richards (17) and Vicki Winfield (16) bring with them experience, with all the 13-year-olds representing Port Macquarie at last year’s State Age Championships.
They have all had the taste for it, and are keen to do their best. Lily Howard and Clayton Smith are the club’s relay specialists for the senior team.
Coach Michael Mullens has been putting the team through their paces since the pool re-opened back in August last year.
"This is what we train for. Only the keen and committed make it to State Championships,” Mulens said. “The swimmers take out of each training session what they want to put in to each training session. We are here to help them reach their full potential. We are expecting some great results from our week in Sydney."
