Shortly before 7.40am today, officers were patrolling the Pacific Highway at Herons Creek, about 30km south of Port Macquarie, when they spotted a Hyundai Elantra which had been reported stolen.
A pursuit began, however the driver of the Hyundai is alleged to have failed to stop and accelerated away from police.
Officers followed the vehicle to the Kew interchange and back onto the Pacific Highway. The pursuit was terminated when the driver allegedly crossed a median strip north of Moorlands.
Just after 8am, a vehicle matching the Hyundai’s description was seen on the Pacific Highway at Johns River and another pursuit started. The driver is alleged to have crossed a median strip a short time later and began heading north.
The Hyundai was stopped on Ross Glen Road where police had set up traffic control and road spikes. Police will allege the driver attempted to run from the Hyundai but was arrested nearby.
A 17-year-old female was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where she was subsequently charged with seven offences, including:
* Police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law) drive dangerously;
* Never licensed person drive vehicle on road;
* Drive vehicle recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous;
* Drive while disqualified from holding a licence; and
* Drive while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
She’s been refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Children’s Court tomorrow.
