PORT Macquarie’s junior cricketers wrapped up their twenty20 season on Wednesday night, with the grand finals, but Wauchope and Camden Haven plundered titles.
Wauchope won the under-12s final against Port Macquarie, before Camden Haven won the under-16s match under lights.
Port Macquarie Thunder took the under-14s match, though, against Beechwood. Beechwood batted first and made 9-103 from its 20 overs.
Jonno Ostler was the pick of the batsmen, retiring on 30 runs. The Thunder did well, restricting the Beechwood batsmen – who scored 144 the previous Saturday against Wauchope – with some tight bowling from Fraser Carroll and Josh Minihan initially.
Brady Taylor and Liam Dunlop kept it up at the end of the innings. The team also fielded well, with a couple of run-outs helping the cause.
The Thunder batsmen looked to be cruising to victory halfway through their innings, thanks to some terrific batting again from Dunlop, Taylor and Riley Irwin. Cheap wickets slowed things down in the middle order, but Thunder took the match by two wickets and a couple of balls to spare.
