That’s Peter on the left, just so you know.
The pair, aged 52, have been refereeing at this level for 10 years.
The brothers transferred their love of playing touch football to officiating the game.
Peter said giving back to the game was their aim.
They began playing in 1981.
It’s not all smooth sailing though.
“We cop a lot of abuse,” Peter said.
“But it’s fun.”
The State Cup is about more than what happens on the field though.
“It’s a good chance to see people we know,” Paul said.
They also have family playing in Port Macquarie.
Their niece, Naomi, is involved in the competition.
They’re from Parramatta, but referee in the Westmead association.
Each team in the competition must also send referees to the tournament.
And if they’re story isn’t extraordinary enough, the pair also have a sister named Mary, like the folk band. Joanne and John complete the family.
