Luxe Fine Food Cafe & Catering was named business of the year in the Commonwealth Bank Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards announced at a gala dinner attended by more than 500 people at Port Macquarie Panthers.
Former cricketer and popular commentator Kerry O’Keeffe was the guest master of ceremonies.
The business community decided the winners, except in a handful of categories.
The awards, run by Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce, started three years ago as a celebration of business in the Hastings.
Chamber president Rob Turner said a new excellence in business category attracted a good response from about 30 businesses.
Judges evaluated the excellence in business entries and chose surf retailer, Saltwater Wine, as the winner.
Mr Turner said the awards had certainly engaged the business community.
Luxe Fine Food Cafe & Catering co-owner Chris Harris said he was surprised and humbled to win the business of the year as voted by other businesses.
“I’m totally honoured to accept this award with all the other great businesses,” he said.
Mr Harris said consistency was the secret to success but all the little things, such as good customer service, made a difference.
The cafe had a large local following, he said.
Chris and Leasa Harris’s Luxe Fine Food Cafe & Catering has been open about five years.
Lake Cathie business, Caramels @ Cathie, won the people’s choice award as voted by Port News readers.
