Port Macquarie’s Farm Gate Tour June 10-12 is a unique insight into country life with 12 properties opening, produce tastings and animals to feed.
Explore the backroads of the Hastings Valley food bowl with its oysters, bees, sheep, pigs, beef, bushfoods and more, all opening their gates to the public.
An initiative of Hastings Landcare, visitors self-drive to the properties, meet the farmers and land custodians and learn about what they produce. Most of the properties offer tours at set times over the three days.
This annual event offers a unique insight into rural living, local foods and sustainable lifestyles. Farmers and lovers of the great outdoors will have the opportunity to visit a nature conservation area, get ideas about sustainable agriculture and see how the farms are worked.
The 2017 Farm Gate Tour stretches from Maria River and the oyster beds of Port Macquarie’s North Shore to Lorne, the Bulga Plateau and Yarras.
The cost to attend is $30 which includes a self-guide booklet with property information, tour schedules, maps and travel times.
The booklet is available online at www.hastingslandcare.org.au or to collect at Port Macquarie’s Visitor Information Centre at the Glasshouse, Hastings Landcare (44a Cameron Street, Wauchope) and Ecowild Health Foods (21B High Street, Wauchope).
