This was the good news from Hastings Council’s Janet Cohen at the weekend as she announced the Stacks and Curley families, with a contribution of $10,000, were the latest sponsors of the project, joining King Bros Bus Group, Port Central, Country Energy and Port Shores.
The Hastings mayor, Cr Wayne Richards, said the council was delighted by the support of the business community “and it would be wonderful to see another sponsor step forward in order for us to finalise the project”.
Each of the sponsors will receive a maquette, or bronze miniature of the original statue.
The $80,000 sponsorship will be added to the $22,000 grant from the Federation Community Grants Program to bring a bronze statue of Sir Edmund Barton to Port Macquarie.
Terry Curley said his family and the Stack family had made the donation because of the valuable contribution Edmund Barton had made as local member for the Hastings and Manning areas prior to federation.
Artist Carl Merten has been commissioned to create the sculpture and is modelling the bronze miniatures.
Ms Cohen said the clay model of the life-size work would be ready by early August for the working group’s consideration.
She expected the bronze figure should be completed and installed by November.
