Students, teachers, their families gathered for a barbecue, music, dance and respect in what was a tremendous appreciation of Aboriginal culture.
Class teacher Lina Jackson organised the morning and said the school wanted to celebrate indigenous culture.
“We have 60 children who identify as indigenous at our school,” she said.
“We wanted to celebrate and have the students dress up in black, red and yellow.
“The wider community was invited to come along before school to join us in paying respect to the Aboriginal culture andtraditions.”
Indigenous students from Westport High School played games with year five and six students, introducing themselves to the younger brigade before they ventured to high school next year.
“Being our feeder school it is good for them to recognise these students when they get to high school,” Mrs Jackson said.
Steve Donovan played a rumbling didgeridoo before teaching dance tokindergarten, year one and year two students.
