The Wauchope Chamber of Commerce has kept this item on the agenda in discussions with the council to make our town a welcoming place to live and visit.
In partnership with the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Gary Rainbow, Chamber President is heading up a volunteer program to tackle some of the unsightly spots around town.
A few areas have been identified needing some tender loving care, particularly gardens in public spaces. A small number of community volunteers have put their hands up for the initial phase of the program, offering to get their hands dirty in the name of a beautiful town.
Plant a tree
“As part of the program we are promoting tree planting around town,” said Gary.
“To launch this element of the program, the Hastings Co op have allocated a spot in the car park garden to plant the first tree. The launch will be on Monday March 19, at 10am if you would like to come along.”
So you want to get involved?
The Chamber invites ideas from members and the wider community as to what areas might need a little attention around the area.
“Remember it should be a public space. We will take any suggestions though our focus at present is gardens and nature strips,” said Gary.
And you want to get your hands dirty too?
If you can spare a few hours here or there, the Chamber would would love more people to volunteer.
There is a process where volunteers are inducted into the program for safety reasons. In essence, you become a Council volunteer to work on approved community projects.
