There will be almost 40 vintage Datsun owners attending.
The Nationals are held in a different state of Australia each year and this is a return visit to Port Macquarie, according to organising spokesperson Steve Naudi.
“The Nationals have always been held over the June holiday weekend but the NSW club decided to break from tradition for 2018,” he said.
“The Nats are organised every year on a rotational basis by the NSW, Queensland and Victorian clubs. Last year’s event was hosted by the Queensland Club in the Lamington National Park in Canungra.
“The Datsun Fairlady (1500 model) was released in 1964, a couple of months before the MGB.
“This will be the 32nd Nationals and also the 50th celebration of the release of the Datsun 2000 in 1968 (the 2 ltre model).”
The first event was held in Dubbo in 1986 and remained there for the next 10 years.
However, the event was then rotated through the three eastern seaboard states and were held at Forbes, Toowoomba (46 cars), Yarrawonga, Canberra (47 cars), Noosa, Shepparton, Coffs Harbour, Bendigo, Noosa again, Dubbo for the 20th anniversary Nationals, the Barossa Valley, Hervey Bay, Port Macquarie, Geelong, Caloundra, Bathurst, Mildura, Bribie Island, Batemans Bay, Echuca, Canungra and now Port Macquarie.
“Along the way there were the famous Jim Ramsey’s Tassie Tour in 2001, the Birdswood Classic in South Australia in 2003 and The Great Ocean Road, on the way to the Barossa Valley Nationals, in 2007.
“The Nationals is more than the common interest we share, these beautiful classic 60’s cars, it’s about the friendships and camaraderie that have been forged over the years and the willingness to make new friends.”
”We are very fortunate that Port Macquarie has been the chosen location for the event,” he said.
A Douglas Vale spokesperson said the Nationals include the display of vehicles and judging for selected categories.
“Douglas Vale will be providing Devonshire teas to the participants,” the spokesperson said.
The event will commence at 8.30am and conclude at 12.30pm. Douglas Vale will be open from 9am until 3pm to interested visitors on the day for viewing these unique cars as well as wine tasting, tours a raffle and the purchase of Devonshire teas and of course our unique wines.
