A Health Infrastructure spokesperson said following the turning of the first sod in December 2017, work was on track to deliver enhanced care for mental health patients including improving capacity to provide care to youth and older persons.
Detail excavation and services diversions have been undertaken to clear the site area for the new mental health facility.
The foundations will be laid shortly with piling work beginning this week, pending weather.
Formwork and reinforcement will be laid for the ground floor concrete slab over the coming weeks.
The $17.5 million mental health unit project, funded by the state government, is being delivered by Health Infrastructure and the Mid North Coast Local Health District.
The spokesperson said the project would provide flexible patient care zones, secure patient rooms with natural light, staff stations, quiet spaces for relaxation, a multi-functional activity room, dining and lounge areas, secure landscaped courtyards and an interview/admission room.
Construction will be completed in mid-2019.
