POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a single fatal truck crash near Port Macquarie overnight.

About 3.30am on Friday, February 23, a semi-trailer is believed to have been travelling north when it left the Pacific Highway at Herrons Creek about 10 kilometres south of Port Macquarie.
After running off the road, the truck overturned and caught on fire.
The truck driver was trapped in the vehicle and is deceased.
Police from the Mid North Coast Police District have commenced inquiries into the crash.
Both northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway are currently closed while the southbound lanes are unaffected.
A contra-flow has been established and traffic delays in the area are anticipated for some hours.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, or delay their trip as the investigation and salvage operation continues.
