One of the driving forces behind the push for a tidal pool in Port Macquarie says the project requires Port Macquarie-Hastings Council support to begin in earnest.

Kathyrn Butler also says that support could come as early as the February 21 council meeting.

"We are trying to arrange two speakers to address council," Ms Butler said.

"Our group has received some wonderful support from Mayor Peta Pinson and (Member for Port Macquarie) Leslie Williams already.

"That support has been well received and we also believe we have the majority of the community on our side too.

"We are looking to council for support though. Without that level of support, we would probably find it difficult to get this project up and running in this current term of council.

"Our group would probably need to sit back and wait for another council election."

Ms Butler said she was 'not that worried really', because she was confident the council would vote to progress the tidal pool.

"When you look at the benefits, the boost to tourism and the health benefits, a tidal pool makes perfect sense.

"It is a place to use when the beaches are closed because of dangerous conditions."

Ms Butler said the Tidal Pool for Port Macquarie committee is also considering fundraising options.

She said the group was also concentrating on taking as much financial pressure off council.

The group is likely to present an updated petition of some 15,000 signatures supporting the tidal pool to the council meeting.

The location of a tidal pool would rely on appropriate zoning options but would be either at Town or Flynns beach.
