The youthful Pirates side batted first and composed a respectable 132 off their 20 overs before last year’s champions chased it down in the 16th over.
Captain Josh Hyde said Scott Witchard (82 not out) led the way after promising Pirates youngster Connor Cook threatened to take the game away.
“The Pirates are a really good twenty20 side; they play the game the modern way which frustrated some of our blokes,” he said.
“They’ve got young blokes that just hit the ball into the outfield and run twos all the time.”
The Macquarie captain felt Pirates could be a force in the next couple of years.
“They could be where we are now in five years time if they keep the bulk of their players,” he said.
Sam Dwyer was one of the standouts for Macquarie, taking five wickets across their games against Port City and the final against Pirates.
“He took 5-14 off his eight overs in the two games and bowled really well,” Hyde said.
Pirates qualified for the final after a three-wicket win over Wauchope RSL in the first game of the day.
RSL could only manage 8-109 off their 20 overs before Pirates chased it down in the 19th over with contributions all the way down the batting order.
Cook (23) top scored, while Cameron Ashe (13), Gary Humphreys (14) and Ambrose Humphreys (15) helped the side claim their first win of the summer.
