On board two separate yachts, one of them named Razzamatazz, the sailors will be met by ambulance officers on Lady Nelson Wharf at Town Green this afternoon (Wednesday, January 3) and taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for treatment.
One of the injured crew, a woman, is believed to have sustained a localised burn injury to her leg and is in some shock, according to Marine Rescue Mid North Coast regional manager Randall Gawne.
The other sailor, a man, has sustained a rope/crush injury to his lower leg. There is a doctor on board assessing the extent of the injuries and providing assistance.
Mr Gawne said the yachts are currently between Camden Haven and Port Macquarie and will be guided across the bar by the Port Macquarie Marine Rescue unit at about 5.30pm.
The race commenced in Sydney on January 2 and will conclude on January 9 on the Gold Coast. The start of the race was met by tricky weather conditions, thunderstorms and heavy rain.
