Neighbours say the man lives there on his own. He doesn’t appear to have been inside at the time.
Firefighters from Fire & Rescue Wauchope went to the blaze after getting multiple triple-0 calls from neighbours at around 2.20am saying a house was on fire and flames were going through the roof.
“We had two trucks and seven firefighters respond. We found the front sections of the house totally involved in fire and no occupants reported inside,” Fire & Rescue Wauchope captain Robert Pursehouse said.
“The police were on the scene.
“We protected other homes nearby. We had support from Fire & Rescue Port Macquarie with another fire truck, and the Hazmat van.
“We also had one tanker from the RFS at Wauchope to give us some support and provide a little bit more person power,” he said.
“Some residents were wandering around and we needed to keep them out of harm’s way. We had ambulances there, just in case, but no-one was injured.
“Essential Energy came and disconnected the house from the town power mains.
“After the flames were out, firefighters made safe the house and cordoned it off and handed the premises over the to the police, who have an ongoing investigation into it.
“We left the scene shortly after 4am,” Captain Pursehouse said.
