Their year 5/6 girls team head to Maitland on Tuesday where they will clash with Bolwarra Public School with a position in the state final up for grabs.
Wicketkeeper Mia Fenton and batsman Annalise Woodham will lead the way after they progressed to the final following a win over Warialda Public School on October 23.
Fenton said the key to a good performance in the Hunter on Tuesday was with bowling a tight line and length and taking advantage of bad balls with the bat.
“We need to bowl on off-stump and when we’re batting we’ll score most of our runs on the leg side,” she said.
“We’ve been working really hard together.”
Coach Xanthe Kerr said the girls had been practising their pull and hook shots at training.
The team has been training at least three times a week for an hour and the hard work has paid off.
Kerr, however, didn’t want to place any expectations on her side.
“As long as they’re having fun, that’s the main thing,” she said.
Should Tacking Point progress to the final, they will clash with either Wellington or South Wagga in the final on Tuesday afternoon.
They will hope to use the same formula with the bat that worked during the earlier stage of the competition.
“The girls ran really well between the wickets and picked up the quick singles when they needed to,” Kerr said at the time.
No Sydney sides progressed to the finals.
“That gives an indication of where cricket’s regional development is at,” Kerr said.
