Port Macquarie and Wauchope runners starred as new marks were created across the two-day carnival that saw over 270 athletes compete.
Port Macquarie vice president Gavin Thompson said the club had a very successful weekend.
“We broke quite a few records, including in the relay and individually,” he said.
“Cooper West, his sister Maddison and Flynn Daly also performed very well.”
Port Macquarie’s senior and junior boys relay teams broke the 4 x 100-metre zone record, while Wauchope’s senior girls relay team broke the 4 x 100-metre zone record for the fourth consecutive year.
Thompson said it was a more complete performance from Port Macquarie this year compared to last year.
“We broke more records this year and it was different kids who did it,” he said.
“There was about the same number of kids that went away, but they’re putting in harder work and it’s reaping the rewards.”
Thompson admitted the club’s talented youngsters were having more fun which led to the success at the weekend.
“Without having a bit of fun you don’t want to be there and the results speak for themselves,” he said.
“The big thing for us is that we’re an extended family more so than a club and the younger ones have really taken the younger kids under their wing.
“Personally I knew we were going to do really well and there is a good chance we’ll end up with a few at state level.”
Next up for the Port Macquarie club are the regional titles at Tamworth in February.
