IT was a ghastly thing to wake up to for Meg McIntyre and her partner, a cowardly act by a member of the community in the early hours of October 2, left a clean-up no one saw coming.

Long time, upstanding citizens of the community, the couple awoke to see their lawn covered in over 200 handwritten and photocopied notes, the size of a business card with “Vote No Lezo”.
“When we went outside on Tuesday morning, my partner and I noticed a scattering of paper on the lawn and what we found wasn’t great,” Ms McIntyre said.
In a Facebook post after the fact Ms McIntyre wrote “Thank you to the Intelligent bogan who confettied our lawn this morning with a heartfelt message. To take the time to hand write such a personal greeting, over 200 times, demonstrates your genuine ignorance and cowardice,” and said since she posted about the incident she has been blown away by the community’s reaction.
“Since I posted on Facebook my post has gone almost viral.
“My partner and I have been blown away by the positive support, warmth and concern from the community,” she said.
An avid blogger Ms McIntyre coincidentally published a blog post about tolerance and equality less than a day before the act.
“We are known as ‘the lucky country’, and as a proud Australian, I consider myself to be very lucky regarding so many aspects of my life.
Since the incident, Ms McIntyre said she just wants people to be more tolerant of each other.
“We are blessed to have freedom of speech, and choices in our attitudes and actions,” she said.
“I have blue-eyes, white skin, wide feet, and multiple sclerosis. I am left handed. Oh, and by the way, I am gay. It was not a choice I would’ve made,” she said.
