The new Australian citizens hail from the far flung corners of the globe, being born in the United Kingdom, Kenya, India and Egypt.
The ceremony was conducted by new Mayor Peta Pinson at the council chambers, who said it was a great day for the community and it also gave people an opportunity to reflect on how lucky we are to live in Australia.
“To quote I still call Australia home, ‘we are one, but we are many, from all the lands on earth we come,” Mayor Pinson said.
“I do not need to convince anyone here that we live in the best place in the best country on earth,” she said.
At the ceremony, Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker addressed the group of newly pledged citizens.
“People of all backgrounds unite our country and I congratulate all of you on your decision to become Australian citizens,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
Kay and Yogesh Khetani, along with children Darsh and Rinkal made the oath to become Australian citizens, and Mr Khetani said that after five years, he can’t imagine living anywhere else.
“My wife has lived in Port Macquarie for the last eight years, and myself for the last five, and it is wonderful place to live,” Mr Yogesh said.
“Coming from the England, the best part about Australia is the weather, long summers and short winters,” he said.
Mrs Ketani said that her favourite part about Australia are the endless beaches.
“Where ever you turn in Port Macquarie there are beaches which is great,” she said.
This comes after 11 residents became citizens back in June.
