This week I posted my marriage survey form. I voted ‘no’ to changing the definition of marriage. I did not vote this way because I am homophobic or because I hate homosexuals or because I think married people are in any way superior to those who ware unmarried. My reason for voting ‘no’ is that I believe the institution of marriage is the natural foundation of family life and, consequently, the foundation of all strong, stable societies. It has been this way since humans first inhabited this planet.

As a single parent myself I can vouch that children raised outside of stable marriages can grow into wonderful people. However, I would never seek to undermine marriage itself, as the proposed change would do. It is my hope that everyone will vote and that the many people who say they ‘couldn’t care less’ or are ‘sick of hearing about it’ will consider carefully the consequences of this survey.
