Linda Hurley, the wife of NSW Governor, The Honorable David John Hurley, has accepted the choir’s invitation and is now their official patron.
Mrs Hurley is a passionate advocate of the importance of singing and met the members of Port Macquarie’s choir earlier this year during a recent tour of the hospital.
The choir has also received a NSW Government grant to purchase a portable keyboard and sound system to open up performance and rehearsal opportunities. The choir is very grateful to local member Leslie Williams for her ongoing support.
The Absolutely Everybody choir is part of the School of Hard Knocks started up by Dr. Jonathan Welch. Its base is in Melbourne, and this is the first regional choir.
It was formed in 2016 under the umbrella of Skillslink Training Port Macquarie Adult Education.
The choir free and is for members of the community who are marginalised – either through disability, isolation or financial circumstances.
It meets every Tuesday morning during term at the Conservatorium Mid North Coast’s Hall on Hollingsworth St from 10am.
The choir is led by Marie van Gend, Ruth Allen and Miriam Lattimore and managed by Katrina Humble on behalf of Skillslink.
There is a team of volunteers, coordinated by Judy Ryan who support the singers and help prepare lunches.
New members are always warmly welcomed.
