LICENSING Sergeant John Lawrie has confirmed extra police will attend this weekend’s rugby union and rugby league grand finals.

“We’ve been following the semi finals of the rugby league and have had police at every game. The same goes for rugby union,” he said.
“We have police rostered on for the grand finals and we have worked with the license holders at the bars, so there will be some restrictions on servicing.”
Port City Breakers have stuck to mid strength beer only at their grand final, with the proactive club planning on ceasing drink service at half time.
“There are teams travelling from all over on both days, meaning there will be an increase in people to the town. We want to ensure all supporters, players and officials are kept safe,” Sgt Lawrie said.
“If people were to incite something that may cause a crowd disturbance we can ask those people to leave the ground.
“We hope for a successful weekend for everyone.”
