Two weeks ago, Jones competed in the British elite Olympic distance championships where he finished just outside the top 20.
He described the conditions as a challenging with temperatures hovering in the mid-teens.
“I had an average swim, good bike and run was fine,” he said.
“The bike was hard, as I had no-one in my group of six to work with so I really pushed the bike to make everyone work yet we never caught the front group.
“It came down to a run in my group and I broke away after a few hundred metres from the start of the run.
“I ended up catching a few athletes on the run that were ahead of me, but I only made up three spots and ultimately came 21st.”
Jones said his European season was “absolutely fantastic.”
“I didn't learn much, but I'm starting to realise what it takes to be a full time athlete and ultimately to be the best,” he said.
He will now have a week or two off and was unsure what the future held.
“I think the Australian season will definitely will be on the cards as an elite athlete,” he said.
“The King Of The Mountain run later this month is also on the cards, but for now I’ll take a rest for a couple of weeks.”
