It is extremely hard, even more so in the cold winter months.
It is why the Port Macquarie community has, and will continue, to unite and raise awareness and money for the homeless.
The latest effort will be a Make A Difference Real Estate Challenge hosted by Coast Front Realty.
On Friday, July 28, Sue Jogever and the team from Coast Front will be sleeping out on cardboard boxes at the Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park.
The ultimate goal is to have an Orange Sky Laundry Van in Port Macquarie, which will enable the homeless to have clean clothes.
So far, $43,000 of the $100,000 goal has been raised and they hope to put more of a dent in that with other fundraisers, like the sleep out, on in the coming months.
“We want people to come down and experience what it’s like to sleep outside and have no home,” said Mrs Megan Urquhart, treasurer of Make A Difference Port Macquarie.
“It’s particularly hard for the homeless in winter. The community has been fantastic and throw their support behind whatever we do. It’s been really great.”
Mrs Jogever hopes to see plenty of people supporting the fundraiser at the end of the month.
“If you didn’t know, the guys from Orange Sky Laundry are coming to speak at Luminosity, so everyone will know about the van in the month of July because everyone’s talking about it,” she said.
“This is about giving back to the homeless and giving them some dignity back.”
