In what should be a great afternoon of rugby league, the event will see the top of the table clash between the Kendall Blues and the undefeated Lower Macleay Magpies kicking off at 1pm.
The Stingrays will then line up against a strong South West Rocks outfit for a a 2.30pm start.
Kendall Blues president Wayne Wilkes says he is really looking forward to seeing the Blues take on the Magpies.
“We’ve had a great start to the season with only one hiccup along the way against Comboyne,” Wilkes said.
“It’s always good to play the stronger teams and given Lower Macleay is unbeaten so far, we can’t wait to try and knock them off this weekend.
“We’re encouraging all our supporters to come along to what promises to be a great display at Laurieton.”
Laurieton Hotel Stingrays are expecting a strong performance against South West Rocks Marlins, and are relishing the opportunity to play in front of a big home crowd, coach Brett Farnsworth said.
“We’re building our season nicely we are improving every week,” the coach said.
The Stingrays started their first ever season with a bang earlier in the year, winning their way through to the final of the pre-season Bain Cup against Comboyne Tigers.
They finished up with drawn scoreboard, but ultimately lost the match on penalty count back under knockout competition rules.
Since then, they have won two games and lost three.
“It’s taking some time to form combinations and we have struggled a little bit at times with injuries, like all sides do,” Farnsworth said.
“It’s our goal is to keep building and hopefully qualify for the finals and see what happens from there.
“I have a lot of belief in the players and I’m confident we can make an impact at the business end of the season.”
This double header event is an initiative the Blues and the Stingrays and an example of working together to benefit all local footy supporters.
The Blues have given up a home game to make this event happen, and the Stingrays will return the favour on July 29 against Comboyne, when they take part in Kendall Blues annual charity double header.
It also promises to be a huge day at Laurieton Oval on Saturday.
