The Port Macquarie triathlete will head to London next week on a two-and-a-half month trip which he admitted had been planned for a while.
“It’s a bit of an impromptu trip really,” he said.
“But it’s my first year as an elite athlete and my dad is originally from the UK and I haven’t seen him for a while so I thought why not.”
Jones applied for a few races in England as part of the British Elite Series events and when his application was accepted the decision was made.
“It’s always been on the cards and it gives me another opportunity to gain some points and maybe qualify for world-level races,” he said.
“I’ll go over there and try and do well and I’m looking forward to the experience.”
He will look to bounce back from being disqualified at the Australian Mountain Running Championships.
The newly-turned 25-year-old will fly out on May 22.
