10 members will compete across both the full and half-distance Ironman events on their home course as they try to replicate their success from Geelong and Penrith earlier in the year.
Club coach Mick Maher said if they were to obtain some individual top 10 results on Sunday it would guarantee their major win as a team.
Points are accumulated from individual finishing positions across both races.
Rachael Goodwin, Kristian Prados, Rob Johnston, Michael Maher and Glen Waide will all compete in the full-distance event from 7.30am.
Steve Shuttleworth, Steve Heslop, Sonia Nash, Mal Downing and Emma Buckley will all compete in the 70.3.
“We need a couple of strong age group positions from Rachael, Kristian, Rob, Glen and myself,” Maher said.
“Fortunately for us, points from both races get combined and they use your points from the top 10 from your team for the overall result.
The top five from each race create the overall points.
“If we get a couple of top 10 finishes in our age groups (I am positive) we will win the championship, but we are up against close to 50 other teams in division five so it will be tough,” Maher said.
This year has been a successful year for the club with Goodwin already qualifying for the Chattanooga 70.3 world championships.
They claimed a division five first place at Penrith 70.3 and a second place at Geelong 70.3.
Each team member has been pushing each other to be the best athlete they can be although Maher said most athletes in team VO2 would be chasing individual goals.
“We’re all chasing a PB on this course this year,” he said.
“Everybody does have that underlining goal of VO2 performance taking out Division 5 – it is strong on the agenda for everybody on the team – everyone is focused on it.”
