The three-day Ironman Australia sporting extravaganza will kick off in style on Friday night with a fluro fun run.
The Port Macquarie Bright Night Run is a five kilometre night time fun run as part of the Ironman weekend.
This inaugural fun run will start at Town Green in Port Macquarie at 5.15pm on Friday, May 5 with race registrations being taken from 4pm.
The run course will be glowing with lighting and laser activations along the course, inviting participants to party their way around the foreshore to Town Beach and back.
To add to the vibrancy of the event, run participants are encouraged to deck themselves out in their fluro best by adorning themselves in glow stick accessories, fluro paint and and bright clothing.
Flashing light sticks and coloured glow bracelets will be on sale at the race registration at Town Green if fun run goers wish to add some more glow factor to their costume.
Throughout the run course will be laser lights, fire torches, live drummers and dance music to get people partying their way to the finish line.
All funds raised from the Bright Night Fun Run will be channelled back into the local community via the Ironman Volunteer program run by the local organising committee.
In 2016, close to $50,000 was donated to local schools, surf life saving clubs, sporting associations and not-for-profit organisations such as Port Macquarie Domestic and Family Violence Specialists.
Registrations can be made online at the Ironman Australia website. Select the events tab and choose Bright Night Run. Tickets are adults (13+) $15, children (5-13) $10. All entrants under 5 are free.
The community can be involved in the Ironman excitement again on Saturday morning with the running of the Ironkids event.
The race is open to all children aged between 5 and 13 years with registrations open between 7.30am and 8.45am on Saturday, May 6 on the Town Green.
There are three race distances – 500m family wave (a child and adult running together), a 1500m run for the 7-10 years olds and a three kilometre course for the 11-13 year olds.
The race starts at 9am.
