Grandma, as she is affectionately known, had her eyes set on a delicious meal of octopus before the eight-legged creature decided to make it personal.
The octopus attached itself to Grandma and enjoyed a brief but fun frolic before becoming dinner.
Jodie Lowe of Port Macquarie Cruise Adventures captured the action.
Grandma soared and flipped mid-air in an attempt to flick the octopus from her torso. The effort was worth it in the end with the octopus devoured in no time.
There are about 160 dolphins that frequent the Hastings River and many, frequently spotted by river cruise tourists, have names.
