Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Senior Manager Forest Stewardship Kathy Lyons said the forests had been closed in consultation with the Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner due to the high threat of bushfire.
“All State forests in the Central Coast and Greater Hunter, including Strickland State Forest, the State forests of the Watagan Mountains, the State Forests of the Barrington Tops and State forests in the Dungog, Bulahdelah, Taree, Kendall, Wauchope and Kempsey areas are closed for the weekend due to the high fire danger,” Ms Lyons said.
“This closure will affect popular camp grounds and picnic areas including Olney, Heaton and Strickland State forests, Swans Crossing near Kendall, Coopernook Headquarters and recreation areas along the Allyn River and Telegherry River in the Chichester State forest.
“Staff on patrol are asking all campers and visitors to leave these forests immediately and putting up signs to inform people about the closures.
“Please do not enter these forests.
“We’re also asking the community to reconsider their visit to all other NSW State forests until the extreme weather conditions ease.”
