There was a strong southerly in a lot of the forecasts, but only a lightish south-easter was blowing on the river, which, with a strengthening run out tide, made going up-river harder towards the end of the race.
Five catamarans contested their division, and their course was shorted by a lap due to the light breeze and strengthening tide.
Frank O’Rourke on Dino, freshly returned from his second place in the National Arrow Cat titles, took the yardstick win ahead of Jack Corthals on Harpic.
Scott Witchard on Hummer then led the last three boats home in a fairly close group, with Rob Barwick on Drift behind him, and then Dave Winter on Spica.
In a battle of young girl skippers, the monohull division was led home on yardstick by Simon and Elsa Gandy in Voyager ahead of Grady and Alice McNee in their Mirror Dingy, Shearwater.
Steve Bohlsen and Jeff Walsh sailed the club boat, Big Bang to 3rd place as Steve’s usual boat, Splash Dance, is having maintenance done on the hull.
Next Sunday is a double header.
Race three of the summer series will start at 11am, then a BBQ lunch before the fourth club championship starts at 2pm.
Ron Apps is rostered on duty.
