The focus will soon turn to the busy roundabout at the Lake and Jindalee roads intersection, with two westbound lanes being provided as opposed to the single through lane that is currently in place.
These works follow the recent construction of a new roundabout at the Lake and Blackbutt roads intersection.
Council director Jeffery Sharp said council has listened to the community’s concerns in relation to traffic congestion and has been actively engaging with the local businesses who recognise the benefits of this intersection upgrade, specifically the improvements to traffic flow.
“The improvements at the busy intersection will continue delivering benefits to motorists including assisting movement of freight around the Port Macquarie industrial area, enabling easier access to local businesses and providing increased safety,” Mr Sharp said.
In order to provide two westbound lanes along Lake Road, more than half the existing roundabout will be removed, and a smaller roundabout constructed. Road pavement works will also take place to tie the new roundabout into the existing road pavement.
Work is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 9 and is expected to take four weeks to complete (weather permitting).
Works are scheduled for this time due to traffic count data indicating this is a quieter period for traffic along Lake Road, primarily due to Christmas and school holidays.
“Local businesses will remain accessible at all times and the communities continued patronage of these businesses is appreciated as this important upgrade takes place,” Mr Sharp said.
“Council asks all road users to allow extra travel time and recommends that residents using Lake Road to travel between the Oxley Highway and Ocean Drive, consider alternate routes,” added Mr Sharp.
