The 33rd annual Wauchope Lasiandra Festival is coming up from March 6-28, 2017 with events old and new.
Traditional pursuits like golf and bowls are on at the Wauchope Country Club.
And the Purple People Shopping and Market Day will see Wauchope go silly, with an array of costumes, and superb displays in the CBD on March 9.
There’s a special Bago Jazz in the Vineyards, and the traditional Hastings River Greyhound Club meeting featuring the Lasiandra Cup.
We are trying to keep the tradition going. It’s very important.

Other highlights include an awards night for the Lasiandra Art Competition at the Top Hat Gallery, and the Hastings Valley Miniature Railway Family Fun Day at Yippin Creek Reserve.
One new event is a Lasiandra Mystery Winery Tour.
The ever-popular Orchid Show will be on, and the celebrations finish with the Lasiandra Dance at Wauchope Country Club, with prizes for best purple dressed.
“We are trying to keep the tradition going. It’s very important,” said festival secretary, Chrissy Jones.
The beautiful lasiandra is Wauchope’s floral emblem, and every March, people come from out of town to drive around and see the purple plants in bloom.
The first Lasiandra Festival was held in 1984. It’s run entirely by volunteers and proceeds are used to promote and beautify Wauchope.
