It is more than 12 months since Woolworths withdrew its offer to buy the Plaza car park.
The supermarket giant had planned to develop its Food for Less site and the Plaza car park next door.
The decision to withdraw from the Plaza car park sale put an end to that plan.
A spokesperson said Woolworths maintained a strong interest in Port Macquarie and was pursuing a number of options for a new store in the catchment.
“Whilst no immediate plans exist to sell the old Food For Less store, we are working with a number of community stakeholders on strategies to improve the appearance of the site,” the spokesperson said.
Woolworths in September 2015 withdrew from the expression of interest process to buy the Plaza car park.
The supermarket giant owns the former Food for Less supermarket site.
The neighbouring Plaza car park is Crown land.
Woolworths has existing development approval to revamp the former Food for Less supermarket.
The development approval remains active.
The Food for Less supermarket, on the corner of William and Short streets, closed in April 2012 as Woolworths considered the smaller format store no longer met community needs.
The site has been empty ever since.
Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce president Hadyn Oriti said he wanted the best for Port Macquarie and that would entail doing something with the eyesore that was the Food for Less site, as well as the Plaza car park.
