A large pine tree at the top end of Clarence Street has been removed after it was severely damaged during a recent storm.
The pine tree was the target of a direct lightning strike in a storm that lashed the Hastings on Monday, December 5.
More than 5500 direct ground lightning strikes were recorded during the brief but intense storm which brought hail, squally winds and flash flooding.
The lightning strike carved a significant split in the tree’s trunk prompting Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to call in an aborist to assess its viability.
The tree was removed by Port Tree Fellas at 9am on Tuesday.
