The quilters are passionate supporters of the hospital, in particular its Maternity Unit where every year they deliver dozens of special quilts to help families celebrate their new arrival’s first Christmas.
Coordinator Lee McGlashan said the annual gift was a rewarding experience for the group’s members as well as a priceless keepsake for parents.
“Every baby in the Maternity Unit over the holiday season will wake up on Christmas morning with one of our special quilts on their cot,” Mrs McGlashan said.
“It is a practical gift that also is a keepsake for parents to remember their baby’s first Christmas.”
The Timeless Quilters’ Thursday group members made the special quilts and this week delivered the gift to Nursing Unit Manager Sandra Eadie.
“We love receiving these quilts,” Mrs Eadie said.
“They are works of art which bring a lot of pleasure to our mums and dads.
“Every year the quilters make their special delivery after spending weeks sewing and stitching together their patchwork designs.
“It’s a beautiful gesture and one that is greatly appreciated by our families at this special time of year.”
The group’s 100-plus members also make charity quilts for the Paediatric Unit, Palliative Care, the Renal Unit and local nursing homes.
The quilters also raise funds to support new mums and their babies. Earlier this year the women donated $8500 to the Maternity Unit’s Special Care Nursery for equipment to help the hospital care for sick babies.
