Alex first joined the RSL following his return from Vietnam at Fairfield. He later transferred to Smithfield in Sydney.
Alex moved to Melbourne and transferred to Mornington RSL. He returned to the Sydney area and transferred to Ingleburn. He moved to Wauchope and transferred to the RSL here in 1999.
Alex was elected as president of Wauchope RSL Sub Branch in 2006, a position he held until the AGM in 2011. Alex displayed a high work ethic which was appreciated by the executive team. He believed in the adage, “do not put off until tomorrow what can be done today”.
He joined the welfare team in 2011 on the visitation roster and would often stand in for team members if unavailable for their rostered day.
Alex is vice president of the bowls committee and has assisted for 15 years to organise the ‘Tin Hat’ bowls day held near Remembrance Day each year.
Alex was elected as a trustee in 2007 and brings the key ingredients of honesty and integrity to this position.
As president, all commemoration services were given the high priority they deserve while fulfilling the RSL’s commitment to Wauchope and the wider community. Alex is instrumental in organising and execution of the Dawn Service of ANZAC Day each year.
Alex ensures a flag is raised to half-mast each ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day at the Returned Services section of the Wauchope cemetery. He was part of the committee who designed and oversaw construction of the new Memorial Wall at the entrance of the Club which was dedicated for the centenary of ANZAC on 25th April 2015.
A presentation of a Life Membership Certificate, citation, jacket, tie and badge and membership card were made by Wauchope RSL by president Des Hancock and president of Port Macquarie RSL Greg Laird. A certificate was also presented to Alex’s wife, Tina from the RSL State Branch.
All committee and members join in congratulating Alex on being awarded this Life Membership of the Returned Services League of Australia.
