Wauchope Hospital Volunteers asked the church for help, after palliative care patients made the request.
The congregation responded with eight Bibles and a commitment to replenish stocks when needed.
The church’s chairman Bill Spence and secretary George Campbell were on hand this week to present the gift to the Hospital Volunteers’ president.
“We heard there was a need, so we decided to help,” Mr Campbell said.
Members of the congregation have a connection to the hospital. They’ve have supported it in the past and have needed it from time to time.
Churchgoers say it’s a pleasure to be able to provide a gift that comforts patients, particularly older people who want to be able to reach for a Bible when they need it.
The Volunteers’ president, Roger Adams thanked the Uniting Church for its support.
“We are very lucky to have the ongoing support of so many people and organisations, including the Beechwood Uniting Church, the Anglican Mothers Group in Wauchope and the Lutheran Church in Port Macquarie,” Mr Adams said.
He said their support made a big difference to the hospital’s patients as well as family members and friends.
