About 9.50pm, officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command attempted to pull over a black Holden Astra on Dahlsford Drive after receiving information the occupants were wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued for about 15 minutes through a number of streets with road spikes used on four occasions.

On the fourth occasion, they were successful on Ocean Drive, about 500m north of Lake Cathie.

It’s alleged the vehicle continued driving on a back wheel rim towards the Lake Innes Nature Reserve Park and only came to rest in bushland when it became stuck between trees.

The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and ran into the bushland; however, after a short foot pursuit with police they were arrested.

During the arrest, it’s alleged the passenger, a 21-year-old man, became aggressive and assaulted a male senior constable. The officer did not require hospital treatment.

Further checks revealed the driver, also aged 21, was disqualified from driving until January 2018.

Both men were taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.

Following inquiries, the passenger was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital where he allegedly tested positive for the presence of a prohibited drug. When he was released he was taken back to the police station and charged with a revocation of parole warrant, assault police officer, resist arrest, self administer prohibited drug and throw missile.

The driver was charged with eight outstanding warrants, police pursuit (Skye’s Law) and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

The pair were refused bail to face Port Macquarie Local Court on Sunday, September 25.
